Force Field Analysis – Eastern Middle School - DEMO

Force field analysis assumes that any social situation is a balance between forces FOR CHANGE and forces RESISTING CHANGE. It helps to identify forces we find operating in a situation or field.

1. It forces people to look at all the factors that are influencing a particular situation (rather than focusing on one or two).
2. It builds some uncertainty into the situation. Complexity.
3. People must consider the situation from as many angles as possible.
4. The group can possibly use brainstorming to list the forces.
5. Force field analysis helps people understand the way things are.
6. It can tell you the chances of success of a plan for changing a situation.
7. Forces may need to be placed in a priority sequence because they in fact have different weights.
8. It is important to try to REDUCE the number and/or power of restraining forces in addition to trying to increase facilitating forces.
