Curriculum includes attention to accuracy and detail.

This indicator measures the extent to which teachers, instructional aides, and other school employees set high standards and emphasize the importance of attending to details, using proper formats and conventions, being accurate in providing answers, and communicating clearly and precisely.

Before participating in the following activity, review the background information on a school specific curriculum framework found at the end of this section.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
  1. What evidence is there that teachers using the same curriculum or teaching the same subject agree on the level of importance of each of the following?

    1. Students’ ability to provide correct answers or representations of content.
    2. Students’ ability to ask probing questions about subject matter and/or demonstrate reasoning.
    3. Students’ ability to present work that is neat, organized, and carefully checked.
    4. Students’ ability to elaborate on ideas, providing specific support or examples.

  2. How can you determine whether the school’s assessment practices are consistent with what teachers teach?

ACTIVITY
  • In grade or subject area teams, discuss your school’s expectations for accuracy and attention to detail in the way teachers teach and students learn. Have each group share its findings. Look for similarities and differences for further discussion.
