| BACKGROUND INFORMATION
THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN CONTENT STANDARDS AND CURRICULUM TO ENSURE LEARNING FOR THE 21ST CENTURY (Aligning content standards and curriculum is the third component of a CCIAP.)Content standards portray what is intrinsic to a discipline and defines the essence of a rich body of knowledge in the subject. They portray a vision of high quality content in a subject area. Content standards are specific to a particular subject area and are broad descriptions of the knowledge and skills students should acquire and be able to use in the 21st century. Most states have written their set of content standards and have implemented assessments aligned with, or at least related to, those standards. It is important that your school review the content standards they are using to be certain that the curriculum aligns with standards. |
