KEY 2 - INDICATOR 6
TEACHERS ARE INVOLVED IN DECISIONS ABOUT STUDENT LEARNING.

This indicator focuses on how curriculum materials are selected at your school and who is involved in the process.

DISCUSSION QUESTIONS
  1. To what extent do members of the staff influence the selection of curriculum materials?

  2. How often, if at all, do members of the staff collaborate to assess student progress and determine the content for in-service sessions at the school?

  3. What actions can the school take to get the staff more involved?

ACTIVITY
  • Have members of a team read sections from Classroom Assessment for Student Success published by NEA (see the resources at the end of this section for information on the book). Concentrate on using assessment to promote student achievement and professional development strategies. Based on the readings, develop group exercises for a school community meeting. Concentrate on approaches for getting the school staff more involved in assessment issues.
