Lesson Four

Lesson Four

The Role of Taxes in Society

Participants begin by brainstorming everything they have used in a 24 hour timer period paid for by their tax dollars. They hear a story about “an angry tax payer. They examine the purpose and uses of taxes and their role in society by participating in a Common Ground activity in order to become more comfortable discussing the topics with colleagues and friends. The workshop ends by introducing participants to characteristics of good tax policy: progressiveness, in-sync with today’s economy, and without special interest tax exemptions.
